My Little Pony - How ''Little''? by Eagle1Division My Little Pony - How ''Little''? by Eagle1Division
Ever wonder how tall they are? Well, I answer that question... With SCIENCE!

Note: "px" means Pixels!

We start with a scene from "Heart's Warming Eve", where Twilight says: "I spy... An 8-foot Candy Cane!"

She might be guesstimating, based off of the fillies and ponies nearby, or perhaps her magical telekinetic ability gives her the ability to "feel" an object and know it very well from a distance (Raven from Teen Titans (also voiced by Tara Strong, like Twilight) said when she moves objects, she extends her soul to them and becomes part of them)

Either way, it's by far our best shot, since apples can range in size greatly, but "8 feet" is pretty concrete, and knowing Twilight, she's probably not too far off.

EDIT:
Few things I'd like to note...
*Average person would be slightly below eye-level with Celestia. The ponies just might get the impression that humans are like deities because the only being they're used to looking up to and talking to like that is Celestia and Luna :P

*Their EYE LEVEL is at the "awkward place" on humans, not their HEIGHT. Their height, surprisingly enough, is rather tall: it comes up to about the chest. So they're quiet a bit bigger than I would've thought, or at least quiet a bit bigger than what I've seen on the internet.

*You'd be big, but not too awkward going through doorways and such, like with Celestia in the series.

*When they stand up, they're at the perfect height to pat them on the head :aww: lol.
Though you may pat Rainbow Dash's head only at your own risk. She might not take well to being patronized :P
(She'd probably hover when you're around so she doesn't have to look up to you :XD: (and especially after you pat her on the head))

Huh. In this analysis, they're actually a little smaller than my usual assumption of four feet tall. Interesting.

Almost that height or more little! By their moving and temperament i think they cant be larger than labradors or dalmatians. In larger sizes rises their weight over 100 kg and they cant be sit like dogs - ankles are too weak for that weight and sitting is painful.

If you look at their size compared to humans, it looks like they'd mass roughly the same amount, no reason to assume that size would be up to 100 kg, given average human mass of 75 kg :p

I surprised that small shetland pony may weight over 200 kg. Ok, shetland pony is chunk of muscles like living tracktor. Otherside little ponies cant be weak like humans - they have not bikes and cars, all close range traffic are trot or gallop. And they may pull carriages tens miles per month.

Yeah, Shetland ponies seem to have really big, stocky bodies. The ponies from MLP seem very scrawny in comparison. To get the mass of a pony, I think just guessing it from the comparison of RD to the vitruvian man drawn here is good enough.

Hehe, and I write science fiction fanfics, so it makes it very nice if I just assume they mass the same as a human and use life support resources at about the same rate, so I don't have to figure out spaceship masses that would be a different size for a different-size creature :XD:

Oooooooooh, you meant to insult the imperial system.
1 foot = 12 inches
1 inch = 2.54 cm
1 meter = ~3.3 feet

So that means an adult pony is about 108 cm.

What?

Just look at it, it's not too complex :p
a'b" means [a] feet and [b] inches. ' is the mark for feet, and " is for inches. I guess if you're not from a country that uses the imperial system that might not be common knowledge :p

It's been said that they're actually small enough to fit in your hand. I believe it circles around how big a "50 karat" gem was to them, compared to us.

Huh, interesting. Though how tall is the "average" human to you?

I'd put them at....
Celestia: 6' 7" at the head.
The Mane Six: 3' 1" (+/- 2") at the head
CMC: 1" 6' at the head

*re-reads this chart* Surprising, I was pretty close. with some exceptions.

I'll kneel down when I pet RD's head.

Just 6' for simplicity.

Lol. RD? Good luck getting past her "cool" side to do something like that :XD: She has no idea how adorable she is, and I doubt she'd want to know, lol. From; "May the Best Pet Win";
FS: "How about this bunny? He's cutesy, wootsy, and quick as can be."
RD: "Cutsey? Wootsy? Have you even met me?"
:D

(Pst; I'd suggest coming off as Lightning Dust, be cool to win her heart, so she gets kinda close, then you might be able to do something like pet her head :XD: )

Thanks! =)
Well, I figured the average 8 year-old girl is about 4 feet tall, right? And in the original My Little Pony shows, the ponies were big enough for a little girl to actually ride. Then I based Luna's height on the height of the average, male human. A lot of it is just comparing it to another figure, if that all makes sense! xD

On a related note, I am WAY too analytical when it comes to ponies. =P I like it when fiction can almost BE real, at the very least.

I'll put all my replies here :P

1) I'm excited to hear your feedback! :D And thanks! :aww: , though I'm 18, actually, lol.

2) Yes, definitely, if you've read the links, you'll know that :D . And I haven't heard of that show, though it sounds interesting. But Star Wars... I just criticize it, lol, it's somewhat irredeemable, IMO, but MLP, on the other hoof... :XD: lol.

3) I've thought about it a little, and thought of how guns and such would work, and how they could flip switches.
(cool snippet: take a look at Astromare Flutterlicious: [link] Hmm, I thought I included it more sharply, but anyways, on the front of their booties is a semi-pointy/sharp front edge, to allow them flip the many switches in a spacecraft interior [link] : [link] (and that's just the forward panel, there's more above them and to their sides) :D )

1) Whoops. My bad! =P

2) Maybe we're overthinking all of this...? o_O

3) Hmm... I see... However, I mean, even something like holding a broom (like in my drawing); that's the kind of thing I was "analyzing" more...

Also, I kind of like to analyze things in a way that they could be physically possible in reality. Like that one show on the History Channel where they analyze the science of "Star Wars" to death. xD
I dunno', I'm assuming you think that way, too, right?

Hahaha! YES! That's me, fellow! I literally crunch many, many, many numbers to make sure I got my science right when I write! :P lol. Even my fanfics. I even got together with a 4-th year Chemical Engineer here at BYU to work on the shuttle for my HiE fic I'm cooking up (not published anywhere yet, still a WIP). We're literally working the thermodynamics of the propulsion system, since it's a somewhat original concept, and as such, requires some work :D

In the episode the conic rainboom when all the books get knocked on the floor I measured the distance from the top to bottom of one of the textbooks and did the same with my math textbook and then extrapolated it. I gave them a density of 1.05 (the same as humans) and calculated out their total weight. BAM RainbowDash pulls 63 THOUSAND Gs on the first 90 degree turn to save rarity and that's not including the weight of the others. The second turn she pulls around 10,000 Gs. I'll recalculate and stuff if you want me to :P
